Plant Care Guide

Master the four fundamentals — water, light, temperature, and humidity — and your plants will thrive.

Watering

  • Check soil moisture before watering — stick your finger 2 cm in. If dry, water thoroughly.
  • Water less in winter when plants grow slowly. Most plants need 50% less water in cooler months.
  • Always use room-temperature water. Cold water shocks tropical roots.
  • Water at the base, not over leaves, to prevent fungal issues.

Light

  • Bright indirect light suits most tropical houseplants — near a window but away from direct rays.
  • Low-light plants tolerate dim conditions but still need some natural light to survive.
  • Rotate your pot 90° every two weeks for even, upright growth.
  • Pale or yellow leaves often mean too little light; burnt spots mean too much.

Temperature

  • Most houseplants thrive between 18–24 °C. Avoid placing them near air-conditioning vents.
  • Keep away from cold draughts and open windows in winter.
  • In the Tunisian summer, protect plants from temperatures above 35 °C, especially in direct sun.
  • Tropical plants hate sudden temperature changes — move them carefully.

Humidity

  • Tropical plants love humidity. Group plants together to create a humid microclimate.
  • Mist leaves in the morning — never at night, as damp leaves overnight invite disease.
  • A pebble tray filled with water beneath the pot provides steady ambient humidity.
  • In dry climates, a small humidifier near your plant collection makes a visible difference.
